CleggPromo (UPIC: CLEGG) is voluntarily recalling its CPB-100 power banks after a reported incident of the power bank overheating, exploding and catching fire. There have been no reports of injury or other incidents. The Gardena, California-based supplier sold about 1,000 of the power banks to seven customers between January 2014 and April 2015.
“CleggPromo strives to provide innovative products that have been tested and have the correlating safety documentation,” says Chris Hodge, president of CleggPromo. “Since joining the company early last year, I implemented independent product testing on our tech and CPSIA [Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act] items to meet all required safety standards. In the past 12 months, two new compliance officers with years of experience in product safety were added to the Clegg team. Product Safety Manager Josephine Chu and Product Engineer Tony Roberts were hired to help Clegg service the industry’s growing needs for product safety requirements and testing verification.”
The CPB-100 power banks, catalog item number 625401, are used to provide emergency charging for portable electronic equipment. The recalled power banks are rectangular with rounded corners and are about 3 1/2 inches long by 1 3/4 inches wide by 3/4 inches deep. The power banks are cream colored and have a silver panel on the top side with a white power button, four circles and the word “POWERBANK.” The left end of the power bank has a standard USB port with the word “Out” above it and a power indicator LED light. The front side has a micro USB port with the word “In” below it. Input, output and capacity information are also on the front side.
The CPB-100 will be replaced free of charge with a certified powerbank to anyone who has one of the original models. CleggPromo customers should contact the company at 800-842-2909 from 9:30 am to 6 pm ET, Monday through Friday, or email recall@cleggpromo.com.
