The shooting that killed at least 59 people and wounded more than 500 at an outdoor concert in Las Vegas on Sunday night has drawn the nation’s attention and an outpouring of support for the victims, their families, the city of Las Vegas and the Mandalay Bay Hotel, where the shooter was located.
According to news reports, the gunman fired on the crowd of about 22,000 people from the 32nd floor of the hotel as they listened to country music singer Jason Aldean in the final hour of a three-day concert series. The concert, the Route 91 Harvest Festival, was held at a fairground area several hundred feet away from the hotel property.
PPAI has held its PPAI Expo at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center since the trade show was moved to the city from Dallas in 2003. The Expo is scheduled at the facility in January 2018.
In a statement issued Monday, PPAI President and CEO Paul Bellantone, CAE, and PPAI Chair of the Board Mary Jo Tomasini, MAS, said:
“PPAI and the entire promotional products industry extend our deepest condolences to the victims and their families of the events on October 1 in Las Vegas. Along with the nation, the promotional products industry is deeply saddened by such a senseless and tragic attack. For PPAI and many members of the promotional products industry, Las Vegas and the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino have served as a second home during The PPAI Expo for nearly 15 years. The property and its owner, MGM, have been outstanding partners to PPAI during that time. This tragic event hit home for many of us, and our hearts ache for our Mandalay Bay family in Las Vegas.”
