Many electronic products in today’s households contain button cell batteries that can pose serious risk if placed in the ear canal, nasal cavity or when swallowed. When lodged within the body, they can cause severe, potentially life-threatening injuries in a matter of hours.

PPAI’s Product Responsibility Summit, September 15-17 in Alexandria, Virginia, includes a session with Dr. Kris Jatana who will speak on button cell battery injuries and mitigation strategies, as well as medical evaluation and management of other types of foreign bodies in the ear canal, nasal cavity and aerodigestive tract.

Dr. Jatana is an associate professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Wexner Medical Center at Ohio State University and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and the author of more than 80 manuscripts and book chapters, and over 100 presentations at scientific meetings. Since 2012, he has served in a leadership role on the National Button Battery Task Force and is a recognized medical expert and consultant for consumer product safety.

All Product Responsibility Summit sessions are industry-focused with limited seating and there’s still time to reserve a spot. Register at ppai.org/summit today to also take advantage of the CPSC lab tour.
