The most wonderful time of the year also tends to be one of the busiest. Between wrapping up deals and juggling personal commitments, it can feel challenging doing it all. With the right approach, though, you can have a productive and meaningful holiday season. It comes down to setting boundaries, managing your time and saying no when needed.
In this issue of PromoPro Daily, we highlight a post from Mondo, a national staffing agency, on how to foster a work-life balance during the holidays.
1. Prioritize your most important tasks. What do you absolutely need to do now and what can wait until after the holidays? The Mondo post recommends creating a list of all your tasks and deadlines and being realistic about each one’s importance and urgency. This strategy helps you focus on completing the high-priority tasks first so you can reduce your stress and allow yourself more personal time during the festive season.
2. Don’t forget the self-care. The holiday season can be taxing physically, mentally and emotionally. Don’t put your needs on the back burner. Whether you have an upcoming deadline or holiday party, make sure you build in time for self-care activities like exercise or meditation to recharge and refocus.
3. Set realistic expectations. The Mondo post points out that many of us put unnecessary pressure on ourselves to have the perfect holiday season. Instead, understand that things may not go as planned — and that’s OK. Embrace the imperfect moments and focus on creating meaningful memories to avoid holiday overload.
4. Learn to say no. This is key to finding a work-life balance during the holidays. When you have a full schedule of work obligations, social events and family time, the Mondo post says you need to know your limits and when to say no when you feel overwhelmed.
5. Encourage a culture of work-life balance in the workplace. If you manage a team, encourage your staff members to take time off and prioritize self-care. The post says you should also lead by example by taking breaks and disconnecting when needed.
6. Consider a digital detox. For stronger interpersonal relationships, try reducing your screen time for the rest of the month. You could designate specific times to check your devices and turn off unnecessary notifications. The Mondo post says you might also organize more face-to-face interactions, like walking meetings at work or game nights with the family to promote more personal connections.
You don’t need to sacrifice your end-of-year goals to make the most of this holiday season. With the right mindset and proper planning, you can close out the year strong while still creating lasting memories with loved ones.
