AI can give you a productivity boost, but there are some skills it just can’t replicate. Take leadership skills, for example. AI can’t understand human emotions. It can’t form real connections or nurture team members. AI can analyze trends, make predictions and help in a host of different ways, but it lacks the personal touch that’s required to lead a team well.

If you wonder how you can be an effective leader in an AI world, you’re not alone. Lolly Daskal, the founder of Lead From Within, says many people think leadership in an AI era is all about staying current on trends. This is important, she says, but thriving requires bridging the gap between technology and the human experience. This means embracing your uniquely human skills like empathy, creativity and adaptability.

In this issue of PromoPro Daily, we share Daskal’s thoughts on the leadership skills that AI can’t touch and why you should work on honing these skills.

1. Emotional intelligence. This skill allows you to connect with your team on a personal level, Daskal says, fostering trust and loyalty. It’s a key skill to motivate your staff members to do their best.

2. Adaptability. AI moves quickly, and so must leaders. Daskal encourages leaders to be willing to experiment, pivot and continuously learn. Adaptability isn’t about survival, she says, but about thriving in a changing environment. Remember that your team is looking to you for guidance, so strive to navigate uncertainty with confidence.

3. Creative problem-solving. AI can analyze data, but it doesn’t know promo the way you do and it doesn’t have your creative spark. Daskal advises leaders to use their creativity to think beyond an immediate problem. Instead, they inspire their teams to use AI as a tool for innovation rather than seeing it as a replacement.

4. Communicating a compelling vision. In a world of automation, people need to feel they’re part of something meaningful, Daskal says. Share with your team why their work matters and how they’re making a difference.

5. Lifelong learning. Leaders are lifelong learners and they encourage their team members to embrace learning in the same way. AI is evolving rapidly, Daskal says, and you’ll fall behind if you don’t keep up. Update your skills and stay curious about new technologies. This creates a culture that is resilient and adaptable.

AI has its strengths and its place in the promo world, but it can never replace the leadership skills above. Remember that your humanity sets you apart. Embrace your human qualities to truly connect and lead your team with purpose.
