Stanley has informed consumers of a recall of its Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs after nearly 100 reports of consumers being burned while using them, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Approximately 2.6 million of the two mugs had been sold and qualify for the recall.
- Stanley’s drinkware offerings have been commonly requested by promo clients, and the Stanley Quencher was arguably the hottest promotional product of 2023.
The stainless-steel travel mugs, which were sold in a variety of colors and sizes, featured a Stanley logo on the side and bottom of the mug. Consumers who bought the products, which have been sold in popular retailers and e-commerce sites since 2016, can contact Stanley to receive a free replacement lid, which should render the product safe to use.
What Happened?
A total of 91 reports have tallied worldwide claiming that heat can cause the products’ lids to shrink and potentially detach. Typically used for extremely hot drinks, this results in a burn hazard and has already caused 38 reported burn injuries.
- In October, the Stanley Quencher, supplied by PCNA, was the No. 14 most popular product in SAGE’s database.
- Recently, Stanley teamed with Amazon to sue counterfeiters improperly using the Stanley brand name.
