The Department of Labor (DOL) rule changes governing overtime exemptions under the Fair Labor Standards Act are set to take effect on December 1, 2016. Key elements to the new regulation include a salary threshold change from $455 to $913 per week and automatic salary threshold increases every three years to be maintained at the 40th percentile in the lowest-wage census region. While these are not all of the changes made, they are a few of the rules that will have a direct impact on industry companies.
As companies prepare themselves and their human resources departments for the rule change, PPAI invites industry businesses to participate in the Small Business Legislative Council’s (SBLC) webinar, New Overtime Regulations 101. The webinar is an added tool for understanding the new DOL rule changes. The webinar can be accessed by clicking here and using the password: SBLC40th
In May, PPB Newslink shared the SBLC’s analysis of the Fair Labor Standards Act’s rule changes.
Despite the new rule changes, efforts are still being made by PPAI and its coalition partners to support the Protecting Workplace Advancement and Opportunity Act, which would put a moratorium on the new rules and require the DOL to perform an economic impact study of how the new rules will impact nonprofits, small business and other vulnerable industry sectors.
