Still mired in a public spat with government officials in Florida over a law that limits classroom instruction over gender identity and sexual orientation, The Walt Disney Company continues to show its support for the LGBTQ+ community, now in the form of a reimagined line of branded merchandise.
Underscoring its corporate commitment to diversity and inclusivity, the conglomerate (which operates Disney World in Orlando, Florida) renamed its annual Rainbow Disney Collection to its Disney Pride Collection, a cheery and nostalgic assortment of rainbow-colored apparel and accessories in support of Pride Month.
The Disney Pride Collection was designed by LGBTQ+ employees and company allies, and feature items like t-shirts and shorts, backpacks, pins, drinkware and plush toys. Now through June 30, all proceeds from the collection, which includes branded products from Mickey Mouse, Star Wars, Pixar and Marvel, will be donated to organizations that support the LGBTQ+ community.
Here’s a look at three of the collection’s featured items.
The Mickey Mouse Loungefly Mini Backpack is festooned with adorable details, from black, signature Mickey Mouse ears and an ombre-rainbow, heart-shaped zippered pocket. In a miniature size, the faux leather grain backpack has a top carry handle, a fabric lining with an all-over design that incorporates rainbow Mickey Mouse and a Disney Parks x Loungefly rainbow logo label plate.
The Marvel Pride Collection Woven Shirt For Adults features an all-over print design of Marvel icons in colors of the rainbow, like Captain America, Spider-Man, Black Widow and X-Men. It includes a button-down front, a shirttail hem and an inside placket with the words “courage,” “bold,” “heroic,” “strong,” “protect” and “power” in rainbow text.
The Star Wars Pride Collection Baseball Cap for Adults offers a refreshed take on the Star Wars logo colored in rainbow, of course. Screen-printed logos are featured on the front and back, and the cap, made from 100% cotton twill, features an adjustable backstrap with buckle.
