PPAI presented 163 Pyramid Awards on Tuesday night to celebrate creative excellence in client programs, marketing, supplier decorating and technology. The ceremonies also spotlighted the top echelon of supplier service with 17 companies earning the coveted PPAI Supplier Star or an Award of Merit.
The upbeat, fast-paced and interactive presentation kept the crowd on its feet as representatives from each finalist company took to the stage to await the announcement of the winner. Awards were presented beginning with those companies winning their first Pyramid, through the finale of the company winning 10 Pyramids this year—St Regis Group which, among its multiple companies, took home gold or silver in categories ranging from new product development, multi-color print on hard surfaces, etching/engraving/laser and best customized product, among others.
“It’s our sixth consecutive year winning best customized product and I don’t think any other company has done that,” says Prestige Glass General Manager Steve Antunes, who accepted the award with St Regis President Jeff Firkser and others from the company. “It’s a testament to the creative skill that the team brings from all the facilities—and the freedom we’ve got to design and create amazing pieces for our customers. We are very fortunate to have our team. This award is something that’s shared among four facilities across two countries.”
Another big winner from Tuesday night included Optigraphics, a perennial performer who won in the supplier decorating categories for combination of processes, two wins in customized non-catalog product, mascot character or persona product, multi-color print on hard surfaces, special application and two wins in special processes.
A+ Wine Designs was also a big winner snagging four awards in four categories for its custom-etched wine bottles, custom soda bottles, etched ice bucket and etched moonshine jars. “I’m stunned that we got four awards—it’s unbelievable,” says CEO Jim Ristuccia. “We’re just a small company—it’s very humbling.”
Among the distributor winners was The Dunstan Group, which won silver in the technology category of blogs/podcasts/digital news. After accepting the award with Brian Young, director of business development, President Scott Dunstan talked about the key to creating a winning podcast. “One of the things we pride ourselves on is the things people are talking about in the parking lot but don’t always make it to the light of day. We are proud to have those discussions—sometimes popular, sometimes unpopular—but we bring things to the forefront which I think is important.”
